Monarch Migration in the Fall
I have every intention of seeing the monarchs this fall.
In all the world, no butterflies migrate like the Monarchs of North America. They travel much farther than all other tropical butterflies, up to three thousand miles. They are the only butterflies to make such a long, two way migration every year. Amazingly, they fly in masses to the same winter roosts, often to the exact same trees....

Overture for Winds by Charles Carter
(Sorry all the writing is backwards, that’s what photo booth does.) I took the first 24 measures of Overture for Winds by Charles Carter, and split it into phrases. I picked 24 measures because they divided into six phrases, six being the number of sides on a cube. Conveniently, the phrases repeat themselves rhythmically, making the two opposite sides of the cube the same. I then abstracted...

Winder Gibson Architects
internationalorangesf:
One of the studio teachers at my school. I really enjoy his work. I love that I recognize the houses in San Francisco as ones I particularly love, prior to knowing my teacher did them. Very interesting and very different from job to job, and in my eyes, that means they take special care to address the needs of the client.

Compact Fluorescent Bulb Wins Design Award
Written by Philip Proefrock on 18/03/11
It’s encouraging to see an efficient product win an award for design; energy efficiency and attractive design combine in a single package. The Plumen 001compact fluorescent bulb has been named the winner of the annual Brit Insurance Designs of the Year Award from London’s Design Museum.
It has taken a few years for this idea to go from...

Gotta Sleep Eventually....
Some snap shots from the studio. Yes, sometimes sleeping under the desk is what it takes.
I thought of the note I reblogged recently when I saw this in the studio. Some notes just make me laugh out loud.

Playing hide and seek at 3am in the studio!
I think from this day on, we designated 3am in the studio to be “hide and seek” time. Why shouldn’t breaks be fun?
Anyway, gives you a little look at what my school looks like.
I LOVE THIS!
I’m jealous that the studio is even open that late, let alone that you get to run around and play fun games every once in...

How to write instructions/directions
I was in the second grade when I was taught how to write instructions. It was quite the lesson actually. I remember it quite well, and think of it often. The assignment was to write out directions on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I remember thinking I was so clever and the assignment was going to be super easy. When it was due, the teacher had a table set up in the front of the...

Music+Architecture
So, it’s possible I started studying music 13 years ago. The clarinet specifically. Today for my architecture studio class, my teacher was trying to explain something with the jargon of another specialty. He chose music, and as soon as he realized I was well versed in the language of music, he had me change my concept for the project.
The assignment, design 7 arbitrary cubes that lack...

Mardi Gras Masquerade
The weekend before Mardi Gras, me and the roommates planned a wonderful, formal masquerade. Printed the invitations, the whole shebang. turned out to be a wonderful night. The next day, everybody was talking about it and asking when the next party is. I like that.
